Iconic Tower Challenge

Year 6 have took part in an exciting project known as 'Catalyst'. This is a joint venture, partly funded, between Johnson Matthey, The Grand Theatre and Dr Martin Carette.

The first trial took place at school. This was the Iconic Tower Challenge, whereby points were awarded for the tallest, most cost-effective and well designed freestanding tower. In our school the Girls' team won with a tower 4.13m tall and a whopping 3825 points!

Our great tower building skills got us into a grand showcase final on 23rd March 2015 at the Grand Theatre in Clitheroe along with 8 other finalist schools in the area. Year 6 were faced with four more challenges; floating boat, bridge building, shelter building and tower building. The children worked exceptionally well. Our fantastic team work gained us 2nd Place overall! An achievement we were really proud of!

As part Spring’s topic ‘Food, Food, Food’,  KS2 went on a Farm to Fork Trail guide at Tescos. The children went on tour of discovery, finding out where in the world the food at Tescos comes from, a sneaky peak behind the scenes to see how food is stored and best of all, we got to sample some of Tescos finest food!

We wrote letters to say thank you to Tescos for putting on a fantastic trip. Read Becky’s letter to find out what her favourite part was!
